Move & Thrive: Understanding Anxiety and How to Manage It

A long time ago, people had to worry about real dangers... like wild animals storming your campsite. Anxiety helped them stay alert and run away if needed.

Today, those dangers are mostly gone. But your brain still works the same way.

It gets anxious about things like work, money, or what people think of you.

That’s why your heart races or your stomach feels tight, even if nothing scary is actually happening.

It's like a smoke detector that goes off every time you cook, not just when there's a fire.

So, how can we manage this overactive alarm system?

1. Recognize the Signal: Notice it. Say to yourself, “This is just my brain trying to help me.”

2. Engage in Physical Activity: Move your body. Go for a walk, stretch, or do a quick workout. It helps calm your brain.

3. Practice Mindfulness and Breathing Techniques: You'd be surprised at how calming just 5 slow, deep breaths can be.

4. Do something fun: Draw, cook, garden, or read. Shift your focus to something you enjoy.

Remember, anxiety is a part of being human.

It's a tool that, when understood and managed, can help us navigate the complexities of modern life.

That’s All for Today!

Have a wonderful day,

Alex
